Faugheen primed for Christmas Hurdle
Faugheen is being lined up for a return to three miles in the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown, Willie Mullins has confirmed.
The 10-year-old, who enjoyed success in the 2015 Champion Hurdle, impressed in the spring when claiming victory over distance in the Stayers Hurdle at Punchestown. However, there was a backwards step on his return this season when finishing behind stablemate Sharjah in the Morgiana Hurdle on November 18. But Mullins is confident that Faugheen will benefit from getting a run at three miles on December 28. The County Carlow handler told At The Races: ‘He was disappointing (in the Morgiana Hurdle), but all those hurdles that were taken out made it a funny race.‘Hopefully he’ll get back to his better form. ‘He probably needs a longer trip and I’d imagine that’s what we’ll do at Christmas.’
