Appleby enjoys Breeders’ Cup success
Trainer Charlie Appleby has revealed his delight after Line Of Duty scooped the $1million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
Friday’s race at Churchill Downs provided plenty of excitement and jockey William Buick had to use all of his experience to guide Line Of Duty home. The two-year-old looked beaten in the early stages but was able to recover to battle it out with Uncle Benny. The pair did bump just before the finishing post, although the placings remained unaltered as Derby-winning trainer Appleby recorded his third career win at the meeting. Appleby said: ‘He was under the pump pretty early in proceedings, but it didn’t really bother me as he just loves to be driven, and the harder you drive him, the more he finds. It was a fantastic ride by William. ‘I knew when he got him rolling down the straight there that he always hits the line strong, I knew he’d find plenty and that’s what he did. ‘It’s a fantastic result for the team, to have another winner here is fantastic.’
