Gosden sure Turgenev can handle Doncaster test
John Gosden says he’s confident Turgenev will run a big race in Saturday’s Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster.
Gosden has never tasted success in the race but has high hopes for Turgenev, who has impressed with wins at Newcastle and Newmarket recently after a second on his Doncaster debut. Gosden knows Saturday’s contest is a step up but he believes the two-year-old can handle it. ‘He’s a progressive horse. He is only a novice winner and he doesn’t come with any Group race form, but he is a nice horse,’ he said.‘He has pleased us since winning at Newmarket and deserves to take his chance in a race of this nature. ‘ Aidan O’Brien’s Magna Grecia is the favourite for the race, while the Ballydoyle handler also has contenders in the shape of Circus Maximus and Western Australia.
