Breeders’ Cup on Roaring Lion’s radar
Roaring Lion could head stateside for next month’s Breeders’ Cup following his victory in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Saturday.
The John Gosden-trained three-year-old made it four Group One victories on the bounce with his victory at Ascot on Champions Day and the success was made even more impressive as it was run over a shorter distance than he has become accustomed to.The Breeders’ Cup could now be on Roaring Lion’s agenda, although that race is run on dirt rather than the turf, which could take some adjusting to.
David Redvers, who is racing manager for owner Sheikh Fahad al-Thani, admits the race in North America is a possibility, but he did indicate the colt could also need a rest after what has been a long season.
‘Sheikh Fahad is very keen to go to the Breeders’ Cup.
He believes this horse is very much the best mile-and-a-quarter horse in the world and he can overcome all of the difficulties that would go with running a horse on dirt for the first time,’ Redvers told Racing UK’s Luck On Sunday.
‘He may well be right, but he has been on the go since February. I haven’t spoken to anybody from Mr Gosden’s yard this morning, or John himself, to find out how he has come out of the race.’
