Two potential Cheltenham targets for Apple’s Jade
Trainer Gordon Elliott says Apple’s Jade will target either the OLBG Mares’ Hurdle or the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
Gordon feels Apple’s Jade, who won the Mares’ Hurdle in 2017, is in good form and he is hoping for a successful campaign with the showpiece event at Prestbury Park in March the ultimate target. ‘She’s flying at the moment. We’ve changed a few things with her this year,’ he told At The Races. ‘She’s in great form, but she doesn’t have to improve a whole lot to be the real Apple’s Jade.‘She only has to find a couple of lengths. That’s all she was getting beat in Cheltenham and Punchestown, but she kept coming into season at the end of last season. Hopefully we can rectify that going forward. ‘There’s only one place until March and that’s Cheltenham. It will be the Mares’ or the Stayers’. It won’t be the Champion [Hurdle].’
