Sangarius backed to shine in 2019
Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah, is confident Sangarius will show more improvement next year.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt landed the ‘Ironxcell’ EBF Novice Stakes at Newmarket in August before triumphing at Doncaster in the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Flying Scotsman Stakes last month. Having produced two impressive performances, the two-year-old stepped up markedly in class in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes and finished a credible fourth out of seven runners.Speaking about the plans for Sangarius, Grimthorpe is confident they have a very good horse on their hands although he admits more progress is required. ‘I thought he ran a nice race, he travelled well into it and he’s going to be a nice horse next year,’ he said. ‘He’s going to progress, but he has a bit to find next year. ‘I don’t see why he wouldn’t get a mile – as for if he’ll get any further, I wouldn’t like to say at this stage of his career. I think we’ll play it by ear, we’re open to all things at the moment.’
