Dettori hails Dewhurst Stakes winner Too Darn Hot
Too Darn Hot emerged an impressive winner of the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday – much to the delight of jockey Frankie Dettori.
The son of Dubawi came into the Group One race at the Rowley Mile boasting an unbeaten record following two wins at Sandown and a victory at Doncaster earlier this year. However, this was always going to be his biggest test yet and he looked in danger of getting boxed in behind the chasing pack early in the race, but as soon as he found some room he was able to coast home for a relatively routine victory. Dettori even had time to wave to the crowd as Too Darn Hot crossed the line and the jockey was full of praise for John Gosden’s two-year-old after the race.‘I’ve been trying 30 years to win this race,’ Dettori told ITV. ‘He’s an amazing horse and in the end I was struggling to ease him down.
‘He’s had three easy races and today he was getting knocked about and running in snatches. For a minute I thought I was in trouble and then the turbo kicked in.
‘He’s up with the best I’ve ridden, he’s got a good cruising speed and he moves his legs really fast!’The Italian went on to confirm one of Too Darn Hot’s next ports of call is likely to be the 2019 2000 Guineas.
‘He’s got pace, he’s bred to stay but I think the Guineas will be the next stop,’ the jockey added. Frankie Dettori
