Enable powers home to Arc success
Enable did enough to deny Sea Of Class as she defended her crown in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp.
John Gosden’s charge was a worthy winner last season but she had missed the majority of this campaign due to injury. She returned to winning ways at Kempton Park in September before travelling to France for Sunday’s race.
Jockey Frankie Dettori steered his charge into the lead in the front of the grandstands before kicking for home. Sea Of Class was inches away from snatching the win but the wider draw seemed to make a difference in the end.
Enable is now just the third filly to win the race on two occasions and Gosden was delighted with her performance.
He told the Racing Post: ‘It’s not been the preparation we’ve wanted – I had a slight hiccup between Kempton and here with a slight temperature problem – so it’s not been easy and it’s down to the filly. Frankie rode a lovely race.
‘Full marks to the second who was flying at us, she was beautifully ridden. Prince Khalid [Abdullah] is the owner-breeder and he wanted to come here and I’ll talk to him and if she’s in good form, there’s no reason why we won’t come back again.
‘She wasn’t at her best today. But she got the job done and she’s a wonderful filly.’
