Tregoning impressed with Mohaather display

Mohaather to miss 2000 Guineas

Trainer Marcus Tregoning feels there is more to come from Mohaather after his victory at Newbury on Saturday.

The three-year-old beat seven rivals to win the Watership Down Stud Greenham Stakes by three-quarters of a length from Great Scot.

The son of Showcasing bided his time under Jim Crowley before stretching away to land the spoils in an impressive display in Berkshire.

The result means Mohaather must now be considered as a genuine contender for the 2000 Guineas and Tregoning was content with his charge’s display.

‘That’s job done,’ said the handler.

‘I’m very pleased and he has been working great – you never know at this time of year when the weather is so changeable, but he looked brilliant.

He is very fit and has done plenty of work.

The upcoming Classic is now very much on the agenda and Tregoning believes Mohaather could be a serious player in the Rowley Mile.

‘He has got plenty of pace, personally I think he will get the mile on faster ground, but they go a different pace and there are many more runners in the Guineas and it is a different test,’ added the Whitsbury trainer.

‘It will be entirely up to the management where he goes, but I’m thrilled we have got this far.’
