Elliott remains cautious on Tiger Roll

Tiger Roll 'unlikely' to go for National hat-trick

Gordon Ellliott says Tiger Roll will need ‘a lot of luck’ to claim a second successive Grand National win at Aintree on Saturday.

Tiger Roll is bidding to become the first horse since Red Rum in 1974 to land back-to-back National wins and is rated as the favourite.

Elliott says he is happy with the nine-year-old, who was last seen winning the Glenfarclas Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March, but the trainer is taking nothing for granted ahead of the Aintree showpiece.

‘I couldn’t be happier with them and I’m looking forward to running them all, and hopefully we’ll get a bit of luck,’ Elliott, who has 13 intended runners in the National, told herald.ie.

‘They are in good order and obviously our main chance is with Tiger Roll again.

‘I don’t know if he can do it again – everybody that has ever watched the Grand National knows that you need a lot of luck in the race – but I do know I couldn’t be happier with the horse since Cheltenham.’
