Murphy coy on plans for novice pair

Trainer Olly Murphy admits he has not finalised future plans for novice pair Thomas Darby and Itchy Feet after Cheltenham.

The pair ran excellent races in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle on the opening day of the Festival, finishing second and third respectively behind the Willie Mullins-trained Klassical Dream.

Five-year-old Thomas Darby and four-year-old Itchy Feet have both won three races each over the past year and showed glimpses of their promising futures at Cheltenham.

Murphy admits the former may have done enough for the season but is considering a run out at Aintree for the latter.

He said: ‘They both ran great races in the Supreme and both seemed fine.

Thomas Darby definitely knows he had a hard race.

‘Looking back at it now you can say they are the two best two-mile novices in Britain.

I would definitely consider Aintree for Itchy Feet more than Thomas Darby.

‘Thomas Darby is still relatively inexperienced and he is not certain to run again.’
