George upbeat on God’s Own preparations
According to experienced trainer Tom George, God’s Own is looking in good shape ahead of the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
The 11-year-old, who has had a few costly errors when in action at Prestbury Park in the past, does have plenty of experience of Cheltenham and came third in the Champion Chase last season. George is optimistic and feels God’s Own is defying his age and looks in good health ahead of Wednesday’s race. ‘This is his fifth successive appearance at the Festival,’ George said. ‘He’s acting like he’s a four-year-old, not an 11-year-old – you’re never short of enthusiasm with him.‘We couldn’t be happier with him. ‘ God’s Own goes into the Festival having had two runs through the autumn, winning the Haldon Gold Cup, while he had to settle for second place in the Peterborough Chase.
