The Guineas Festival at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile is the undisputed starting point of the British flat racing season.

Running from Friday, 1 May to Sunday, 3 May 2026, the three-day spectacular is anchored by Saturday’s legendary 2000 Guineas Stakes, a Group 1 contest that has shaped racing history since 1809.

With the colts preparing to do battle over the straight mile, finding a winner on this testing terrain requires sorting through the data. Here’s our guide to the major betting angles and horses to track for this weekend’s first Classic.

1. The heavyweight trainers target Newmarket

Newmarket’s wide straight is often thought to minimize draw bias, but the historical data tells a vastly different story. A whopping 83% of the last 24 winners of the 2000 Guineas were drawn in stall 12 or lower.
