Howard coy on Winter Escape
Trainer Aidan Howard says he is not in a hurry to decide any plans for Winter Escape after an injury a Leopardstown.
The eight-year-old has improved at jump racing this season, winning three races, including two at Grade Three level. In the Flogas Novice Chase, he was going well up until the penultimate fence when he received a bump and his challenge faltered. It was later revealed that he suffered a burst blood vessel after taking the knock. Howard says he will be careful surrounding his future outings but is convinced there is no serious issue.‘He’s very good, he came home and ate up and he’s in good form this morning – it was just one of those things,’ said Howard. ‘He got a bad bump turning for home and that could have caused it. ‘I was very happy with how he was going, he was going as well as anything turning for home, it was just very unlucky. ‘He’ll have an easy week and I’ll have to speak to Frank (Berry, racing manager) and JP (McManus, owner) and we’ll make a plan.’
