Definitly Red scores at Aintree and has Cheltenham in mind

Horse Racing

Definitly Red will now be mothballed until Cheltenham after winning Saturday’s Many Clouds Chase at Aintree.

The nine-year-old, sent off as a 1/2 favourite, came into the race as the defending champion and marched off with Grade 2 honours once again.

It was an encouraging display by the son of Definite Article to follow up his success in last month’s Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby.

The race saw 2017 Grand National winner One For Arthur’s comeback but he unseated Tom Scudamore at the third fence.

Brian Ellison’s charge took the race under Danny Cook ahead of Double Shuffle and Acdc, with the North Yorkshire-based handler now setting his sights on Prestbury Park’s blue-riband event – as long as condition suit.

‘The next step will probably be the Gold Cup, I think,’ he said.

‘I just hope we get better ground than we did last time – and we’ll go straight there fresh.’
