Kemboy to miss Ladbrokes Trophy outing
Kemboy’s inability to reach Newbury in time because of travel disruption has ruled him out of Saturday’s Ladbrokes Trophy.
The Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old was well-fancied to win the handicap race this weekend having impressed on his seasonal debut in the Clonmel Oil Chase earlier this month. However, the Irish champion trainer’s hopes of winning the Ladbrokes Trophy for a second successive year, off the back of Total Recall’s success 12 months ago, were scuppered when Kemboy’s ferry across the Irish Sea was cancelled on Thursday morning. Following crossings were also subject to delays because of the adverse weather so it was decided to abandon the trip. Steve Massey, racing manager for the owners, the Supreme Horse Racing Club, said: ‘It’s obviously very disappointing.‘We were looking forward to having a horse with a leading chance in such a prestigious race, but we can’t do anything about the weather. ‘The ferry was cancelled this morning and the ferries later tonight could be delayed. Even if he did get a ferry late, he could have a rough trip and might not get to Newbury until the early hours of the morning. ‘It’s a big blow and disappointing for all his owners, but we know he’s an exciting horse and we have to do what is in his best interests.’
