Frequent But Worth The Wait
O’Keeffe Three-Year-Old Primed To Crack The Code
On a day that can confound or delight the punter with the volume of racing, the maiden FREQUENCY CODE might be worth hanging on for in the last at Donny. The horse had three runs in novices and maidens earlier in the year, showing promise in his second when running green but staying on to finish second behind Surfman (ran third to Telecaster in a York Class 1 next time out) on Newcastle’s all-weather in April. He was gelded and put away for a couple of months but it was his next reappearance that suggests he can win this evening. Starting at 7/2, encouraging odds not justified by his racecourse form, he ran a decent race off a mark of 61 to be third to King and Queen, beaten seven lengths. That horse came out again last night and sluiced home. Frequency Code hit a blank spot about three out in that race but certainly ran on well after, and today’s extra furlong will be very much to his advantage. He goes off the same mark and the quick return of seven days shows trainer Jed O’Keeffe’s intent. His win return of five from 14 in the last fortnight only adds confidence. BORN LEADER, trained by Hughie Morrison, made the same move from maidens to handicaps two races ago and has a third and a runner-up placing to his name. He goes off the same mark of 54 so might well just be run out of it again. CORMIER is being backed after running a three length second to Mind the Crack at Haydock. The latter has been placed twice since without showing the form to be outstanding and Cormier is another who goes off the same mark and the Haydock event didn’t look ultra-competitive. At 7/2, Frequency Code looks the one in a race that will produce a few future winners. G Lees
