Back This One To Have A Happy Ending
Bastiman Five-Year-Old Has Conditions For Another Win
There has been an admirable display of placing by Rebecca Bastiman in recent weeks with EDGAR ALLAN POE, and she looks to have found another opening for him today when she sends him down the M1 to Yarmouth for the Freederm Handicap over a mile and a quarter. He is on a three-timer after two wins at Pontefract, and prior to that had been runner-up, and first at Carlisle so seems indifferent to whether the course is right or left-handed. He has also won on ground that has varied from good to firm to soft so gets another box ticked. His last win was off a mark of 73 but was an apprentice event so he isn’t penalised; indeed, he goes off a pound less today over what now looks like his optimum trip of a mile and a quarter.ROCK THE CRADLE just tops him on BTO ratings and will be there or thereabouts but might just need to drop another couple of pounds in the handicap, and EARTH AND SKY makes his handicap debut but might be tapped for speed over this trip. The CORPORAL is being backed but for no particular reason, and at an easily-found 3/1 Edgar Allan Poe looks the one to stop any shocks. G Lees
