Don’t Hedge Your Bets On This One
Five-Year-Old Turning Into A Brighton Specialist
One of the joys of British racing is the variation in its racecourses as to layout, undulation, sharpness, draw bias etc, and quirky courses attract particular horses. Brighton is such a course and as well as resembling Epsom has had the likes of Archimento and Nutini as regular winners there; today we have HEDGING in the John Ternouth 70th Birthday Handicap, and he goes for his third win here from six attempts, only once being out of the first four. The gelding got back to winning ways in a seven furlong handicap here a week ago off a mark of 57 and has a 5 lb penalty this evening, but won off 71 at the start of last season. That win was preceded by two close placed efforts, today’s ground is ideal and he wears his usual blinkers and has last week’s winning jockey, Georgia Dobie on board. All looks good. Another recent runner, COME ON BEAR looks a danger at 9/1 and MISS RECYCLED looks to build on last week’s success over this mile, a distance more suitable than the shorter events she had been competing in. At the 3/1 offered by many of the leading layers Hedging is the one. G Lees
