Japan set for Grand Prix de Paris
Trainer Aidan O’Brien says Japan is likely to contest the Grand Prix de Paris rather than the King George And Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Japan holds an entry in the King George And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot at the end of the month, but O’Brien says a run out at ParisLongchamp is the more likely target for the three-year-old. ‘We are thinking of going to the Grand Prix de Paris with Japan at the moment,’ said O’Brien, as reported by Sky Sports. ‘That could change, but that is what we are thinking of. He seems to be in good form, he seems to have come out of Ascot well and everything seems well with him so far.‘ Japan won the Group Two King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and finished third behind stablemate Anthony Van Dyck in the Investec Derby at Epsom, and O’Brien says the latter could instead be aimed at the Ascot race. He added: ‘We’re thinking Anthony Van Dyck might go to the King George, with Sovereign. It could change, but that’s what we’re thinking at the moment.’
