Virus halts Meade’s race plans

Horse Racing

Martyn Meade has confirmed a ‘virus’ in his Manton yard has resulted in his decision to temporarily halt the season for his horses.

Meade as has reacted after Technician’s disappointing run at Chester followed on from Advertise struggling in the 2000 Guineas the previous weekend.

They have been the only two runners in the past fortnight and Meade has made the decision to keep his horses under wraps until the bug which is affecting them clears up.

He said: ‘I think we’re just having a quiet time with everything – we haven’t been running anything for the last few days.

‘Advertise was not right in the Guineas, and Technician wasn’t either when he ran at Chester last week, so we have just pulled stumps – and all the horses are on the easy list.

‘We’re about halfway through that process now,’ Meade added.

‘We just seem to have picked up a sort of virus somewhere, I think, and the only thing you can do is ease back.

‘It’s nothing you can put your finger on – they look fantastic and they are doing everything at home, but you can’t tell which ones are affected until they are under pressure on a racecourse.

‘I would think it will be the end of next week (before the yard has runners again).’
