Clan on course for King George despite ‘little cut’ at Haydock
Nicholls star will gear up for Kempton hat-trick bid after ‘easy week’.
Paul Nicholls reports Clan Des Obeaux on course to bid for a hat-trick of victories in the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase, despite picking up a slight injury at Haydock. The Ditcheat trainer has revealed the eight-year-old suffered an overreach cut when beaten two lengths by Bristol De Mai in the Betfair Chase on Saturday. It is not a serious setback, however, and Nicholls expects Clan Des Obeaux to be back in training by the weekend. Nicholls said: “He actually stumbled at the start and did quite a nasty overreach on the bulb of his heel – Sam (Twiston-Davies) could easily have got unseated. “For a couple of strides Sam was looking down and wondering what had happened.”The silver-coated King of Haydock Bristol De Mai regains the Betfair Chase at @haydockraces #ITVRacing pic.twitter.com/z77vIuDQSB
