Delphi delivers Leger Trial success for O’Brien and Heffernan
Progressive colt digs deep in Curragh Group Three.
Delphi initiated a big-race double for Aidan O’Brien and Seamie Heffernan when making it four from four for the season with a determined display in the Comer Group International Irish St Leger Trial at the Curragh. Down the field on his only juvenile start at Tipperary, the Galileo colt made a winning return in first-time blinkers at the Curragh in June and has not looked back – following up in a Navan handicap before dominating from the front in the Nijinsky Stakes at Leopardstown. With last year’s Irish St Leger heroine Search For A Song a significant non-runner, Delphi was the 10-11 favourite for this Group Three assignment and was once again sent straight to the lead by Seamie Heffernan.
