Goodwood may be next for Khaloosy
Thoroughbred Stakes in offing as grey goes up in class.
Khaloosy is set to step up to Pattern-race class after demolishing his opposition in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot. The Roger Varian-trained colt blew away his 21 rivals when landing the ultra-competitive one-mile handicap by four and a half lengths. It was only the third start of his career and the first since he got off the mark in eye-catching fashion at Wolverhampton in November. Connections have given the grey time to recover from those exertions and are now eyeing the Bonham Thoroughbred Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. “We didn’t want to rush him back in this week,” said Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum. “The last time I spoke to Roger we were looking at a race at Goodwood for him – the Thoroughbred Stakes, a Group Three over a mile for three-year-olds only at the end of the month.“That was the initial thought.”
