Elliott expects Dufresne to deliver over fences
Well-regarded runner suffered Naas defeat on Sunday.
Gordon Elliott is already looking forward to the day Andy Dufresne goes over fences. The highly-touted six-year-old met with his second defeat over hurdles at Naas on Sunday when failing to give 6lb to Jason The Militant in a Grade Two. Elliott did not enter Andy Dufresne at the Cheltenham Festival this year, choosing to stay closer to home. “I’m always disappointed when you get beaten, but he was giving away weight to everything,” said Elliott. “Mark (Walsh) said he hit a bit of a flat patch, but then he kept galloping and he couldn’t pull him up after the line. “He’ll be a nice horse to go jumping fences. He’s only a shell of a horse.”Elliott did have one winner on the card in the shape of Farouk D’Alene in the bumper “He’s a raw horse and one for the future. He’ll have an entry for Cheltenham, but it would have to come up soft for him to go,” said Elliott. “He’s a fair horse and two and a half miles will be right up his street. Jamie (Codd) said he gave the rail away to let the other horse come through and give him something to go at. He straightened up when he had something to go at.”
