Doyle deliberating on Kaiser Black return date
Grade One-placed runner is entered at Leopardstown.
Pat Doyle will wait until later in the week before deciding whether to let stable star Kaiser Black return to action at Leopardstown. The nine-year-old was largely unconsidered 33-1 shot for the Flogas Novice Chase at last year’s Dublin Racing Festival, but ran an excellent race in defeat to fill the runner-up spot behind the Warren Greatrex-trained La Bague Au Roi. Kaiser Black has made just one competitive appearance since – dominating his rivals in a Grade Three contest at Naas last March – but is reported to be in rude health ahead of his potential comeback in Sunday’s Gaelic Plant Hire Leopardstown Handicap Chase. Doyle said: “He’s in great shape and he might run on Sunday. We’ll just see how things are looking later in the week. “I wouldn’t want to run him on very heavy ground on his first run back. It won’t be like that at Leopardstown, but he does have plenty of weight and we have the option of waiting for the Red Mills Chase on February 15. “He ran very well at Leopardstown last year. That was his first run back after a break and we know he goes well fresh.“He doesn’t take much racing and he’s a spring horse who doesn’t come to himself until this time of year.”
