Bell Pepper Looks Hot At Chelmsford
Conditions Point To A Second Win For Two-Year-Old
The in-form William Haggas (10 from 44 in the last 14 days) sends his Kahoof to Chelmsford for her second race tonight and the filly has been backed into favouritism for tonight’s contest. She was fourth here two months ago but strictly on that form rather than her trainer’s, is at a false price here. There are two previous winners in the field, Letscrackon and Pepper Bay and the former looks sure to be there or thereabouts after her easy defeat of Agent Shinwell at Windsor two weeks ago. That was on heavy ground, however, and the form might be unreliable. Her sire, Camacho has had 67 winners but from 819 runners on today’s surface.Pepper Bay ran and won at Kempton in the third week of October after a very promising second to Dance Fever at the same course a month earlier. The latter has run up a hat-trick and is clearly useful while the third, Alfies Watch, had been placed on his previous run. Pepper Bay’s win Kempton looked the best form in this race and her transfer to Michael Bell’s yard won’t impede her progress; he is 13% at today’s venue in the last five years. The filly is by Cable Bay whose progeny are two from 11 at Chelmsford and an encouraging 15% overall on the Polytrack surface. Callum Shepherd takes the ride and he has an impressive win return here of 26 from 185. The other danger looks to be Rock Of Fame from the in-form Varian yard, and while she has run well in her two races she will need to improve further to take this. At the 11/2 offered, Pepper Bay looks a cracking each-way bet to nothing. G Lees
