Front Runner To Hang On At Chester

Horses that lead, if ridden at a good tactical speed have an advantage around the bends of the Roodee and it’s very likely that HARVEY DENT will attempt to make all there today.

By sprinter Mayson, he has plenty of speed but had the stamina to win over a mile and a quarter at Lingfield in January.

He got his head in front again at Carlisle a week ago when beating Ghayyar a couple of lengths with Marshall Dan, a Newmarket runner-up on his previous outing, back in seventh.

Prior to that, the Archie Watson trained gelding had contested over today’s course and distance, making all until well inside the final furlong before Sezim got him on the line.

That was off a mark of 79 and last week’s win was off 80.

He goes up six pounds today, but promising apprentice Pierre-Louis Jamin takes off five.

The latter is experienced, with a dozen wins from just over 150 rides and piloted Calippo to victory for Watson at Leicester last Saturday.

A big danger is SPARKLEALOT, a course winner and whose sire Sir Prancealot gets 20% winners at Chester.

He wears cheek-pieces for the second time and has been running well but still looks a couple of pounds too high.

CITY WANDERER won his maiden well at Newbury but there is a huge difference between that galloping track and Chester, where the progeny of his sire Kodiak have only won 8% of their races from 181 attempts.

Harvey Dent will almost certainly be leading at the furlong marker and will try and hang on.

He is at an easily found 11/4 to do so.
