Speedy Leodis Dream can notch Sandown success
Leodis Dream can abolish the memories of a nightmare run last time with a win in the Scurry Stakes at Sandown on Saturday.
The three-year-old flopped when sent off favourite for a valuable sprint at York, with an awkward start leaving him with too much to do before fading to finish last of the 19 runners. It was obvious that David O’Meara’s charge did not perform at his best that day and excuses have been made subsequently. Before that performance, he racked up five wins on the bounce, with three of them coming in quick-fire fashion at the start of this season. In between his victories at Thirsk and Chester, Leodis Dream landed a competitive handicap at Sandown over five furlongs, beating the re-opposing Reticent Angel in the process. His rise up the handicap has led the handicapper to raise him 13lb since his Thirsk success in April but Leodis Dream is proven on ground softer than good, proven course and distance form and a favourable draw. It’s likely the gelding can restart his improvement and make his first start in pattern company a winning one. Well Done Fox sets the standard on the basis of his two-year-old form and tops the speed and BTO ratings. The colt was kept busy last season and was rewarded with two listed successes next to his name – including one over course and distance – but finished last on his seasonal debut and needs to prove he has trained on from his juvenile campaign. Street Parade could be the main danger courtesy of his commanding victory at Windsor last time out and his trainer/jockey combination of Stuart Williams and Jason Watson have an impressive 33% strike rate at Sandown. But he has been exposed in two starts at Listed level and is unproven on ground softer than good. With sufficient doubts cast around his main rivals, it’s worth backing Leodis Dream to get his career back on track at 7/2.
