Fellowes to reduce King Ottokar trip
Charlie Fellowes has revealed he intends to drop King Ottokar back in trip on his next outing after struggling in the Chester Vase.
King Ottokar failed to see out the extended mile and a half of the Chester Vase and now options over 10 furlongs are being explored in the UK and abroad. Fellowes has admitted there were concerns about the distance last time out but is optimistic of seeing his charge bounce back at a more suitable trip. ‘There was always a doubt about him getting home and he clearly didn’t. He has a lot of speed, as he is out of a six-furlong Listed-winning mare,’ he said.‘We ran him in the Vase rather than the Dee to see if he would get the mile and a half. They went very hard and he travelled great, but just didn’t stay. ‘The French Derby was mooted as possibility, but he is unlikely to run in that and if we go to Royal Ascot it will be for the Hampton Court. ‘My initial reaction, though, is to find a nice Group Three over 10 furlongs and we might end up going to France for something like that.’
