Epsom an option for Hermosa
Aidan O’Brien says Hermosa will target either the Investec Oaks at Epsom or the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas later this month.
Hermosa landed the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and may stay at a mile for a trip to the Curragh on May 26 or make the step up to 12 furlongs for the Investec Oaks on May 31. Trainer O’Brien says the final decision will be made by owners John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith. ‘It is in the mix, the Irish 1,000 Guineas, and she can’t do both races,’ said O’Brien, as reported by Sporting Life. ‘[The O’Brien-trained] Pink Dogwood is there and it is going to depend on how she is.We had other fillies that ran well in the Guineas, like the filly Ryan [Moore] rode [Just Wonderful], so do we let Hermosa go up to a mile and a half and let her run in the Oaks with Pink Dogwood, or do we let her go back to the Curragh? The boys will make that decision. ‘You would imagine Hermosa will stay, but we will see what happens. Pink Dogwood will go straight to the Oaks now.’
