Could Be A Happy Day At Ludlow
Novice Hurdler To Continue Progress For Small Stable
One of the pleasant aspects of the racing game is when a small stable manages to get a home-bred in front at the winning post and there is the prospect of that, and at good odds, in Shropshire today. Brian Eckley trains a handful of horses at Llanspyddid in the Brecons and sends JAUNTY SORIA up the A49 to contest the Racing To School Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Ludlow today. He takes on the royalty of the National Hunt scene in the likes of Nicky Henderson, whose DIEU BENISSE is odds-on and expected, and Tom George who has the consistent DARLING DU LARGE in contention. Jaunty Soria has been brought along so considerately that she is worth an each-way punt at Coral’s 12/1.Raced five times in total, she had a place and a couple of ‘running-on close homes’ in bumpers before going in a novice hurdle at Hereford after a three-month break. The daughter of German Derby runner-up Malinas was up with the pace before fading into fourth in the last 100 metres and the winner, Esprit Du Large, had won his penultimate race and run really well in his previous one, a much better affair at Haydock. The mare is rated third on BTO regular, and top on speed figures and gets three nice positives for the performances of the trainer and jockey Robert Dunne at Ludlow. Although she will be better over further, a small Monday each-way bet can be rewarded. G Lees
