A Shaw Hit Again At Southwell For Quick Returner
Course And Distance Winner Set To Strike Again
Great things were probably hoped for HAMMER GUN when he was sent racing for The Queen back in 2015, under the care of Sir Michael Stoute. Things didn’t materialise as planned and he was gelded, sold and sent to be trained at Derek Shaw’s Leicestershire stable in late 2016. The son of Smart Strike has done really well, accumulating eight wins from a further 43 races, about three-quarters being on the all-weather and has, in fact, raced at today’s venue Southwell on 15 occasions. His figures read 1,1,1,4,1,4,7,1,4,2,1,3,3,4 and 1.That last win came a fortnight ago after 15 misses and another try today over the same distance of a mile looks the right call. He is up five pounds to a mark of 78 but won off a pound higher here 10 months ago and winning pilot Paddy Mathers is on board again. Dundalk winner MASTER DIVER is the least exposed of these and JUANITO CHICO is well rated on BTO figures and gets a tick for trainer Williams’ recent 91% better than expected form. At 7/2 in a race paying quarter the odds, Hammer Gun might turn out to be an each-way bet to nothing. G Lees
