Happy Romance given Irish date

Super Sprint winner will chase more cash.

Happy Romance is likely to head to Ireland for her next outing after Richard Hannon decided against a quick reappearance for his Super Sprint winner.

The filly held an entry in the Group Three Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, but Hannon felt she had earned a longer break between her races.

Her win at Newbury was her fourth outing of a season which did not begin until June 4, and she will go in search of another lucrative pot next.

“I think we’ll just wait for the sales race in Ireland,” said Hannon.

“We’ll just give her a bit of a break now. She showed her class last weekend so there’s no need to rush her out again.”

Plans for stablemate Threat are less clear, however, with last season’s Gimcrack winner enjoying a mid-season break.

He failed to see out a mile in soft ground in the St James’s Palace Stakes and finished only 10th in the July Cup.

“Threat will have a break for now and we’ll wait and see what the owners (Cheveley Park Stud) want to do, there’s a few options,” said Hannon.

“I think he gets seven (furlongs) and he will get a mile on fast ground. He showed plenty of speed at Newmarket, but we’ll talk it through with the owners and see if they are thinking of him as a stallion prospect or want to keep him going racing.”
