Bin Suroor’s Benbatl ready to challenge Winx
Saeed Bin Suroor says it would mean a lot to end Winx’s winning run when he sends out Benbatl for the Cox Plate in Australia.
The Godolphin handler is sending the four-year-old Down Under after a mediocre couple of outings in the UK, finishing fifth at the Juddmonte International Stakes at York most recently. The son of Dubawi had enjoyed plenty of success before arriving in England, racking up three wins in four outings at Meydan, and Bin Suroor is confident he can make a splash in Australia.
Benbatl is scheduled to line up in the Caulfield Stakes, followed by the Cox Plate, a race wonder mare Winx has triumphed in the last three years.
Bin Suroor said: ‘Benbatl will do the Caulfield Stakes, then the Cox Plate.
It’s a big race (Cox Plate) and she is the best filly in Australian history and it will be hard to beat her.
‘We are taking a good horse from England, though, and we will see how we go.
‘It would mean a lot if we beat Winx. I have a lot of respect for her, and for her trainer and jockey. Our horse is doing good. If we win it will be great, but if she wins she is the best.’
