Kadupul stakes Royal Ascot claim with victorious debut
Filly quoted for Albany Stakes after Yarmouth success.
Kadupul could earn a late call up to Willam Haggas’ team for Royal Ascot following her debut victory in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Yarmouth. Despite being the last of the five runners to exit the stalls in the six-furlong prize, the Dark Angel filly finished best of all to give Haggas his third juvenile winner of the season. Still faced with plenty of work to do approaching the final furlong, the 13-2 shot rallied well under James Doyle to wear down long-time leader Willabell and get up on the line to score by a short-head. The pair pulled 12 lengths clear of the third.Maureen Haggas, wife of the winning trainer, said: “Our two-year-olds are doing us proud as that is our third two-year-old winner. They are doing well which is great. “She was a bit green, but she battled well and will improve for that run. She is quite active at home, but she is a nice, kind filly. “She could go to Ascot next week and the Albany does come into consideration as she is by Dark Angel and has won on her debut.” Kadupul was introduced as 6-1 joint second-favourite for the Albany by Coral. Mythical Madness showed he still has plenty of life left in him at the age of nine to complete a double for Doyle in taking the attheraces.com Handicap by a length and a quarter to gain his first victory since re-joining David O’Meara. Doyle said of the 11-4 shot: “He seems to enjoy life in Yorkshire. He lost his way and slipped down the weights a bit. “He did well there as that wouldn’t have played to his strengths as a mile would have been sharp enough.” Frankie Dettori steered Majestic Noor to glory by a head in the Royal Ascot On Sky Sports Racing Maiden Fillies’ Stakes. Trainer John Gosden said of the 15-8 shot: “She had some experience as she ran twice last year. She is a very genuine filly and I thought he rode a good race on her. “It’s a long old straight at Yarmouth, but she saw out the mile and a quarter well and he got his fractions right. “I told Frankie if there was no pace do your own thing as she was a filly that was going to see the mile and a quarter well. He judged it beautifully and she answered every call.” There was further success for Gosden and Dettori as Magical Morning (9-4) made the most of his previous experience to open his account with a clear-cut four-length success in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Novice Stakes. Gosden said: “He had a run last year and he has worked nicely this spring. We were expecting a good run from him. “I think Frankie taught him a lot by taking him to the rail. I think he has finished well and we will look for a novice now.” Sir Mark Prescott’s runners are always to be feared when taking a big step up in trip, as Alphabetical (11-10) demonstrated with a facile seven-length victory on his first attempt over a mile and three-quarters in the Ultimate Royal Ascot Guide At attheraces.com/ascot Handicap. Winning rider Luke Morris said: “He stepped up from a mile to a mile-six and he is very typical of one of Mr Prescott’s that improve with time and distance. It was good to see him get his head in front. “Hopefully off a mark of 54, there is a bit in the locker and he will keep improving.”
