Sam Spinner ready for Cheltenham
Trainer Jedd O’Keeffe is confident Sam Spinner is ready for a tilt at the Sun Racing Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March.
The six-year-old, who won last season’s JLT Hurdle, showed some of his old form after finishing in fourth place behind Paisley Park in the Cleeve Hurdle after failing to finish both of his other outings this season. He took badly to the padded hurdles and unseated riders on both those occasions at Newbury and Ascot respectively. O’Keefe says he is relieved to see the form finally come back and is now confident there can be future success. ‘He’s brilliant. He’s come out of the race very well. We’re really happy and the next stop will be the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Festival,’ said the Leyburn trainer. ‘It was nice to see that because it’s been an anxious time really. Everything has gone against him without it being the horse or anybody else doing anything wrong. It’s just been circumstances. ‘To see him race with enthusiasm, jumping well and finishing well was good.’
