Lake View Lad to swerve Cheltenham
Trainer Nick Alexander says Lake View Lad will probably not run again until the Grand National after suffering s small setback.
The 10-year-old has a sinus issue and is currently being rested ahead of the big race at Aintree. He was due to head to the upcoming Cheltenham Festival to run in the Ultima Handicap Chase but is now being saved for another crack at the National. Last year, he pulled up four fences from home after finding himself out of contention near the back of the field. Despite the small sinus issue, Alexander is confident it will not greatly hamper his preparations ahead of April’s race at Aintree. He said: ‘He’s fine, but he had a small sinus issue – he’d have probably run in the Premier Chase at Kelso on Saturday if it hadn’t been for that, which is a bit annoying.‘He’s in at Cheltenham [in the Ultima Handicap Chase], but I think we’ll go straight to Aintree with him. ‘It should clear up very quickly.’
