Tiger Roll named among National hopefuls
Last year’s winner Tiger Roll is among 112 initial entries for the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree on April 6.
Gordon Elliott’s charge held off the Willie Mullins-trained Pleasant Company in a close finish last spring in the Liverpool showpiece and will hope to repeat the feat this year. Pleasant Company is also on the long list of potential National runners, taking his place among 47 Irish-trained entries at this stage. Mullins has nine other horses in contention, including Rathvinden, Isleofhopendreams and Total Recall, while Nigel Twiston-Davies’ nine-strong hand includes Bristol De Mai, Blaklion and Ballyoptic. Colin Tizzard has five possible runners, with double Topham Chase victor Ultragold and Welsh Grand National winner Elegant Escape among them.Jessica Harrington has two entries, with Magic Of Light and Sandymount Duke, while 2017 Grand National winner – Lucinda Russell’s One For Arthur – is named on the list too. Robert Walford’s Becher Chase winner Walk In The Mill is also included among the hopefuls at this stage. Weights for the Grand National will be announced on February 12.
