Fry’s delight as If The Cap Fits does it hard way
Trainer Harry Fry was delighted with the way If The Cap Fits dug deep to land Saturday’s Coral Ascot Hurdle.
The 4/5 favourite pulled off a one-and-a-half-length victory although that does not tell the story of the race. Not his usual dominant self, the six-year-old seemed in trouble as Rayvin Black made the early running and eventually finished third. Old Guard and We Have A Dream were both in contention at the last, but If The Cap Fits responded when Noel Fehily asked for more, with Old Guard (7/2) running an excellent race to end up second. Fry said: ‘We’ve seen a different side to him today.Noel said there was parts of the race he wasn’t travelling. He usually tanks through his races really well and today he has just raced a bit behind the bridle. ‘He only ran two weeks ago and from turning in he has had to dig deep and he has toughed it out. That is a new side to him. It is a good prize and I’m delighted to land it.’
