Blaklion on track for National run

Nigel Twiston-Davies says Blaklion is set to reappear after Christmas as his trainer looks towards another Grand National run.

The nine-year-old was fourth in 2017 after being sent off as favourite and was in a similar position this year, only to be brought down at the first.

Being pulled up at Sandown a fortnight later signalled the end of his campaign although Twiston-Davies is again readying him for a shot at Aintree glory.

A couple of injury issues have kept him out of action to date but the Cheltenham handler feels there is still plenty of time to ensure he is firing again by April.

Twiston-Davies said: ‘Blaklion won’t be out until after Christmas.

He had a minor setback – just a very small thing.

There are not many early-season targets for him anyway.

‘He is back in work and doing lots of it at home and he is getting there.

The National is the plan again, all being well.’
