Mengli Khan is Elliott's Galway hope

Trainer Gordon Elliott has described Samcro’s chances of running in the Unibet Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown on Sunday as 50-50.

Sunday’s Grade One contest has been the talk of the town all week, with Samcro expecting to go up against Faugheen.

Jessica Harrington’s Supasundae will also compete in the big race but Elliott is now having doubts over his stable star.

Samcro reportedly needs more ease in the ground and Elliott plans to assess the conditions early on Sunday morning.

He told reporters: ‘I’m nervous enough and I’d be 50-50 about whether I would run him.

I’ll walk it again in the morning.

‘There was a lot of drying there today – it’s tricky enough.

You can’t blame the racecourse either, it’s the way the weather is.

Watering it isn’t ideal.

‘I’ll see – I’m not quite sure.

I’d love to run him, but I’m not going to take a chance.’
