Course Winner Has Conditions just Right For Another Successful Run

It is a cliche that hindsight is a wonderful thing, and in the case of AVORISK ET PERILS’s racing career it is distinctly true.

She goes in the Bombardier ‘March To Your Own Drum’ Handicap at Lingfield today but started her racing life unsuccessfully in mile and a half bumpers on soft ground.

Her first two were at Newbury and Fontwell and in these, as well as a subsequent one at Taunton she only beat a total of two horses home.

She did better on the flat when racing over seven furlongs and a mile and rounded off her 2019 summer campaign with a third, beaten under three lengths at Brighton over seven furlongs.

Reappearing over seven furlongs on the all-weather at Kempton in early November, and unfancied at 20/1, she put in a much better performance, going down by three and a half lengths to Violet’s Lads.

Reliable yardstick Cauthen was second and subsequent Southwell winner Silverturnstogold third, so, in context, the form is good.

The filly, trained by Gary Moore, was then turned out quickly again here at Lingfield over a mile and bolted in from 11 rivals.

It wasn’t a great race but she did it well off a mark of 55 and is up 7lb today, manageable in the light of her improvement.

She also has a lot of stats in her favour, including a three winners from four runs return on this Polytrack surface for the progeny of her sire No Risk At All, while jockey Hector Crouch is a nice 11% when riding for the trainer here.

It is clear that this surface and venue suit her well and she has run two good races at the distance.

As in all such handicaps there may be one in the field that pops up unexpectedly with form better than seen recently but today’s competitors are generally well-exposed horses that probably lack improvement.

Three-year-olds might be expected to have some potential for progress and there are three in the field, RECUERDAME, POTTERS QUESTION and KENNOCHA.

The first has only beaten three home from 24 rivals in his last two races and Potters Question was fifth of five when last seen at Brighton in May.

Kennocha could pose a threat at the easily found 12/1.

Her siblings are 19% here, trainer Amy Murphy has had four winners from 18 runners at the course and she has won at the venue off a mark just 2lb less than she shoulders today.

All factors considered, Hills’ 10/3 about Avorisk Et Perils looks value.
