King confident Yanworth will return ‘soon’

Plate success for Who Dares Wins

Alan King says Yanworth is in good shape and is confident he should be ready to challenge in some of the ‘good meetings’ this season.

The dual Group One winner stepped up to fences last season and won the Dipper Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day to suggest he was going to enjoy a successful spell.

However, the 2017 Ryanair Stayers Liverpool Hurdle winner then switched back to the smaller obstacles in the spring and disappointed when finishing sixth in the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Connections revealed he wasn’t 100 per cent afterwards and was given more time off to recover, but King says he’s now doing well.

The Wiltshire-handler says Yanworth will not be rushed back but is hopeful he will be ready to compete for the big prizes again early in 2019.

He said: Yanworth is hopefully due back quite soon.

I’ve not seen him since the spring, because he has been back at Martinstown.

But Frank (Berry, racing manager to McManus) was very upbeat about him the other day – so I hope we will see him later this season.

‘I hope he will be back for some of the good meetings at the end of the season.’
