Emotional Bowman revels in Winx success
Jockey Hugh Bowman has praised the performance of Winx after she landed a record fourth Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
The Chris Waller-trained mare, the world’s top-rated horse, pulled away on the final bend to become the only horse to claim Australia’s most prestigious weight-for-age race four times. It was also the seven-year-old’s 29th successive victory and she is now undefeated in three years, having last failed to cross the finishing line first back in April 2015 at Randwick. Bowman, who has been on board for all but two of Winx’s 29 wins, was delighted with the performance Down Under and has hailed the ability of the ‘wonderful horse’. He told racing.com: ‘I can’t believe it. I really thought in the build-up to the race I would get quite emotional, I am feeling emotional but the electricity that came through my body when I turned into the home straight just then was something I guess I only get to feel. ‘Everyone watching gets so much joy and pleasure out of the superb ability of this wonderful horse. The fact she’s been able to do it so many times consecutively just speaks volumes for the management of her.’
