Bettys Hope delivers for Millman at Newbury
The Rod Millman-trained Bettys Hope emerged victorious in the Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.
Jockey Silvestre de Sousa steered the two-year-old ahead of Show Me Show Me during the final strides of the Newbury showpiece to secure Millman’s second victory in the race, 22 years after hist first with Lord Kintyre. The daughter of Anjaal was a bargain purchase by Millman’s wife Louise, but she is certainly proving a valuable asset, as Saturday’s win was her third on the bounce, following on from her successes at Chepstow and Chelmsford City. Millman believes Bettys Hope can continue to go from strength-to-strength over the coming years, while he was also keen to praise de Sousa, who was riding the bay filly for the first time. ‘We still have Lord Kintyre in the yard, aged 24.And Bettys Hope can hopefully go on from this,’ Millman said. ‘I was a bit nervous when she stood up in her stall, but thankfully all was well and I thought Silvestre gave her a fantastic ride.’
