York date for Anapurna
Connections of Anapurna have set their sights on the Darley Yorkshire Oaks next month after a mid-season break.
Anapura landed the Investec Oaks at Epsom at the end of May and will now head to York on August 22. The John Gosden-trained three-year-old could have been aimed at the Irish Oaks later this month, but Mark Weinfeld, manager for owner Helena Springfield Ltd, says they wanted a longer break and have opted for the Yorkshire Oaks. ‘We have an entry for the Yorkshire Oaks and if she’s going well, then I think she might take it up, but we’ll have to see how she is nearer the time,’ he said, as reported by Sky Sports. ‘We weren’t tempted by the Irish Oaks, we always felt it was coming too soon as she had a hard race.‘Hopefully we’ve done the right thing, but you never know. That Epsom Derby/Oaks course can take it out of a horse, some horses take a long time to recover.’
