Dettori guides Stradivarius to Gold Cup success
Stradivarius won a second consecutive Gold Cup at Royal Ascot as jockey Frankie Dettori claimed four races on Ladies’ Day.
Dettori, who won the Queen Mary Stakes and Prince of Wales’ Stakes on Wednesday, continued where he left off as he claimed wins with A’ali in the Norfolk Stakes, Sangarius in the Hampton Court Stakes, and then won the Ribblesdale Stakes on board Star Catcher. The 48-year-old was delighted to win a seventh career Gold Cup with the John Gosden-trained Evens favourite as he pulled away to cross the line ahead of Dee Ex Bee. Master Of Reality came home third. Dettori said: ‘What an amazing horse he is.He is a horse for the big occasion and I love him dearly. ‘I am only nervous because the people care so much about this horse. It’s a wonderful story. Every time he runs he delivers. ‘ Dettori will also feature in the Britannia Stakes and King George V Stakes as he to secure a clean sweep of all six races on Thursday.
