Crystal Ocean claims Prince of Wales’ glory
Frankie Dettori guided Crystal Ocean to victory in the Prince of Wales’ Stakes on day two of Royal Ascot.
The 48-year-old Italian jockey, who had already tasted victory on board Mark Johnston’s Raffle Prize in the Queen Mary Stakes, took the five-year-old Sir Michael Stoute-trained Crystal Ocean to the front of the field. And, while he did start to wander when under pressure from the favourite Magical in the final straight, Dettori put him back on track and claimed a two-length win with Waldgeist making up plenty of ground from the rear to finish third. Afterwards, a delighted Stoute said: ‘He is a high-class horse and I’m delighted to win a Group One now, he deserves that. ‘He is a fine horse, a special horse. There’s been a lot of great team work and hard work put into getting this result.’
