Anthony Van Dyck looks to copy Galileo's success

Hermosa sealed a Classic double by justifying pre-race favouritism to win the Irish 1,000 Guineas.

After the disappointment of Magna Grecia’s fifth place in Saturday’s Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh, O’Brien gained some consolation by extending his win record in this race to eight victories.

The daughter of Galileo, who entered the race having won the English 1,000 Guineas, set the pace early and kicked clear of Pretty Pollyanna and Foxtrot Liv to take an impressive four-length success under Ryan Moore.

She joins Attraction (2004), Finsceal Beo (2007) and Winter (2017) in winning both at Newmarket and the Curragh and Moore believes there is more to come from his ride this season.

Moore said: ‘She was always in control and didn’t really look like getting beat at any stage.

She is very strong and has done exceptionally well from two to three.

‘She gave me a feel of a top-class filly and, all being well, I think she could have a really good year and could go further than a mile.’
